“Yoga is the unifying art of transforming dharma into action, be it through inspired thought, properly nurturing our children, a painting, a kindness or an act of peace that forever moves humanity forward. “ ~ Micheline Berry
“Your life is a sacred journey. It is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way. You are on the path… exactly where you are meant to be right now… And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, of healing, of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love.” ~ Caroline Adams
“Mindfulness helps you go home to the present. And every time you go there and recognize a condition of happiness that you have, happiness comes.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
“Who are you and what is your purpose?”
These are two of the big questions that have resonated with me since I began my journey in mindfulness, yoga, and meditation 17 months ago. My (be)coming into mindfulness was a blessing in disguise. It was disguised in the form of multiple health issues I faced as a busy downtown litigator; but, they were issues which I considered secondary to my job which was my first and only priority. In my mind, I was invincible. I was a mid-level lawyer in my late-20s with a long career in the law ahead of me. How misguided I truly was.
With the opportunity to change my career path from private to public practice with the Alberta Courts, I consciously chose the path of health and wellness, of healing, one day at a time. That was when I found yoga (or, when yoga found me, I’m not quite sure which it is, perhaps we found each other). Today, I am not sure what I would do without yoga in my life. I am the healthiest and happiest I have ever been in my adult life. I often tell people that yoga and mindfulness has saved my life. Because, quite simply, that is the truth. Yoga breaks you down and builds you up again into the best and clearest version of who you have always been. It forces you to deal with all of your thoughts – as wild or as irrational as they might be – in the present moment. Put simply, yoga has helped me to experience a profound and undeniable awakening within the body, mind, and spirit.
In June 2016, I was honoured to received my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training certificate through the Anahata Rising School of Yoga in Edmonton. I am now a proud 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance.
I hope that my writings on mindfulness, yoga and meditation will provide a source of useful information and perhaps inspiration to those who are seeking to make a fundamental change in their own lives – change that will yield an awakening of the mind, body, and soul.
As I contemplate who I am and what my purpose is at this juncture in my journey, I find myself growing ever stronger in my conviction that I am here on this earth to serve the divinity in my fellow brothers and sisters, and to help alleviate human suffering through the practice of mindfulness.
Always remember that you are already a wonder of life – wherever, whenever, and however you find yourself.
May the energy of yin and yang guide and protect you.
The divine in me bows reverently to the divine in you, always.
